February: Myself and Mrs. Alaska United States, 2016, Rori Van Nortwick, had the distinct honor of attending the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine Event. This is a prom put on for guys and gals with special needs. You can learn more about the Tim Tebow Foundation here.We had an absolute blast and danced the night away!
March: Rori and myself attended the Empty Bowl Project and helped raise funds for Bean’s Café. Their mission is to feed the hungry and homeless without discrimination. For more information visit them here!
April: April was an EXTREMELY busy month for me! All the hard work over the past year lead me to my favorite event. The Alaska Miss Amazing Pageant. With the help of my amazing committee we were able to host an event to build confidence and self-esteem for girls and women with special needs. We had 26 participants, over 4o volunteers and multiple right-hand men who helped make this our best year yet! April 30th at Dimond High School we crowned 26 lovely ladies and helped prove that they have every ABILITY to make their dreams come true! We have six new queens who will be headed to Chicago over 4th of July weekend to participate in the national event! To learn more about Miss Amazing, Inc. and get involved check out our website!
Also in April, I attended the Food and Wine Festival which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, an organization near and dear to my heart! As a cancer survivor I understand the importance of raising funds for cancer awareness, prevention and early detection!
May: This month started out with a BANG! I attended the Amblin’ for Alzheimer’s event in support of my sister queen, Rori, Mrs. Alaska United States, 2016. Then, I had the pleasure of walking with one of my Miss Amazing queens, Kristina Stevens, in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk as we helped raise funds to send her and her sister queens to Nationals! After that I volunteered at the March of Dimes Alaska where I helped set up for the event and crown the finishers!
This is sure to be a BUSY year for me! Stay tuned for what’s ahead! And a new Pageant Press article will be hitting the blog soon! 🙂
P.S. Thanks to Mrs. JBER, Emily Richards, we were able to meet two celebrities a few months back!
Miss America, Betty Cantrell
And Charles Tillman from the Carolina Panthers!!
